Different zirconia prosthetic solutions may be used depending on the position of the tooth, your bite and aesthetic requirements. The most suitable option is determined after an examination.
The colour, shape and proportions of each crown are matched to the neighbouring teeth and your overall smile.
Zirconia crowns can be fitted to natural teeth, but they can also be used as the final prosthetic restoration on dental implants.
When Are Zirconia Crowns Recommended?
A zirconia crown may be a suitable option when a tooth:
- is significantly damaged or weakened
- is cracked or worn down
- has a large filling
- has changed colour or shape
- requires prosthetic protection following root canal treatment

A crown is not the best solution for every tooth.

Before final fitting, we check the appearance, contact with neighbouring teeth, bite and how the crown feels to the patient. The crown is permanently fitted only after this final check.

Zirconia or Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal Crowns?
Both types of crowns have their own indications.
A porcelain-fused-to-metal crown has a metal framework covered with porcelain, whereas zirconia restorations do not have a conventional metal base.
Zirconia offers particular advantages when aesthetics, a natural appearance and avoiding a dark metal edge along the gumline are important.
